TICKETS & TEAMS

  • Entry into participating venues, which are completely closed to the public during the event and will welcome Kwanzaa Crawlers with DJs, food, drinks, specials and prizes. (Food and drinks sold separately.)

You'll also get a commemorative Kwanzaa Crawl cup (while supplies last.)

It’s kind of like when you buy tickets for a concert or a movie--- when you get inside you still have to pay for popcorn and a big ass soda. Or when you pay admission to get into the club, and still have to pay for drinks and a hookah. Instead of buying a ticket for one party, Kwanzaa Crawl tickets give you entry into three or more!

Also, you'll forever be a part of helping to make Black history.

  • If you elected to have your tickets transferred, your tickets will be good for December 202If you elected to have your tickets transferred, your tickets will be good for December 2023. All attendees on the transfer list received this confirmation on 4/29/22.

Instructions on how to redeem your tickets for this year’s event have been emailed to you.

If you had your tickets transferred and you didn’t receive an email, shoot us a message at kwanzaacrawl2023@gmail.com.

  • Given our postponement due to COVID, we allowed everyone who purchased tickets for Dec. 2021 several options and opportunities to either 1) transfer their ticket to May 2022 or Dec. 2022, or 2) allow us to resell your tickets to the people on the waitlist since our event was sold out. Although our tickets are non-refundable, we offered those options as a courtesy due to the extenuating circumstances.

As our pandemic courtesy period has ended, we must adhere to our refund policy and are thus unable to accommodate any additional transfer/re-sell/refund requests.

If you elected to have your tickets transferred, your tickets will be good for December 2023. All attendees on the transfer list received this confirmation on 4/29/22. Instructions on how to redeem your tickets for this year’s event have been emailed to you (or whoever purchased your tickets) on 11/22/23.

If your ticket is being transferred to Dec. 2023, but you are unable to attend this year’s crawl, we encourage you to resell your tickets to a friend or via social media.

  • We won’t be able to add you into a sold out team, but your friend can switch their ticket to be with you on a team where tickets are currently available.

Don’t worry! If a friend is on a different team, it won't make or break your crawl! Teams criss-cross, split up and get back together, join other teams to create bigger teams, etc.

Join a new team. Make new friends!

  • You can only transfer tickets to a team with tickets currently available.

To transfer to another team, open the Eventbrite app or click the “view and manage” link under the Order Summary section on your Eventbrite confirmation email; after that:

    • Go to Tickets.

    • Select your order.

    • Save your changes.

Full and detailed instructions can be viewed HERE.

  • If you’re the original purchaser, You can edit your order information to put your ticket under someone else’s name and email address. This does not remove the ticket from your Eventbrite account, but the new attendee will receive an email prompting them to claim tickets when you save the change.

If you purchased tickets that were not directly from us or had tickets purchased on your behalf, you won't be able to login and update the information on the original order. The original ticket buyer needs to perform the transfer. If you want to verify legitimacy for tickets not purchased directly from us, please contact Eventbrite here.

If you're having a hard time transferring tickets into someone else's name via Eventbrite, just forward them your QR code and order confirmation. They can show it and collect the wristbands. Just tell them to be sure to head to the link in our iG bio and sign up for our mailing list to receive updates. Since the ticket is still in your name, we won't have their email address on file to send them updated information.

Once your QR code is scanned, you'll be checked-in - so if someone has your QR code, we'll assume it's because you've given them permission to do so. Just be advised: once the wristbands are picked up, we are not responsible for it.

  • Yes and no. You have to crawl with the team you bought a ticket for, but most teams will join another team at some point during the day.

  • Kwanzaa Crawl is a non-refundable event. If you can’t make it and would like to sell your ticket, you’ll have to do it on your end via your private and social networks.

  • Pick another venue. Even if a venue is unavailable as a starting point, it still may be one of the stops on your map.

If a venue isn’t listed that means the teams for that venue are sold out.

  • Groups of 15 or more can Crawl together at a 5% discount by purchasing a squad deal. All tickets must be purchased and paid for at the same time.

Once you've made your purchase on Eventbrite, please fill out this form.

  • It takes a tremendous amount of resources and manpower to execute an event as complex as Kwanzaa Crawl. There’s a reason no other bar crawl like this exists in the world! It takes months of planning and requires the help of over 200 people to pull off.

Your ticket purchase helps us cover our operational costs, as well as ensure that the Black and Brown people working around the clock to make this event happen are fairly compensated for their time and work.

GETTING AROUND

  • Yes. And please make sure there's money on it before you get to the Kwanzaa Ceremony. Some teams will be taking the train to their first stop.

  • We will be "crawling" of course! All of the bars will be within walking distance from each other.

Bring a Metrocard and cash. We'll all ride out from the Ceremony together and some teams may have to hop on the train to get to their first stop.

No one participating in the crawl should drive for any reason! For obvious personal safety and legal reasons. (Plus, don't ruin a good thing, yo.)

  • Check the forecast and bring an umbrella, poncho, snow boots, whatever you need to feel comfortable. This is a rain or shine event. But---once the liquor hits you, you’ll feel no pain - Did we mention that the team leaders will play music that we'll sing and dance to as we walk from bar-to-bar?! Stay turnt! It’ll help you stay warm.

  • If one of the aforementioned instances occurs, you can always head back to the last bar you were at and a Kwanzaa Crawl team member will help you find your way. But if both happens, you may just need to take yo’ drunk ass home!

ABOUT THE BARS

  • NO WAY! That sounds dangerous.

Crawlers choose the FIRST STOP on their crawl route. The next 2 stops will be determined by us and at the 4th stop, you can Crawl to a venue of your choice!

  • You won't know until you meet your team leader at the Kwanzaa Ceremony. That's part of the fun! If there is a bar you really want to go to, purchase a ticket for it and it will be the first stop on your route. Ideally, you should start at a venue you've never been to before. IT'S NICE TO PICK YOUR FAVE HANGOUT SPOT, BUT SINCE YOU'RE ALWAYS THERE --- TRY A NEW TING FOR A CHANGE!

At 4 PM, you’ll be able to access the routes using the QR code on your wristband.Unfortunately, we have to keep the routes secret until the event starts off, so you won’t have access to your map until all of the teams are already at their first stop.

  • Yes. It’s kind of like when you buy tickets for a concert or a movie--- when you get inside you still have to pay for popcorn and a big ass soda. Or when you pay admission to get into the club, and still have to pay for drinks and a hookah.

Instead of buying a ticket for one party, Kwanzaa Crawl tickets give you entry into three!

  • Yes and no. Food and drink specials will vary from stop to stop, but we try to support our small Black businesses without expecting a discount for doing so. Our venues range from sports bars to nightclubs to cafes, so they will offer a variety of food and drinks within all price ranges. Each venue offers our crawlers a unique experience that commensurates with the vibe they’re trying to curate.

  • Teams will arrive at their last bar between 6 and 7 PM. After 9:00 PM, crawlers can go to any bar they want. The event technically ends at 10, but most, if not all, the bars will stay open as long as you keep drinking (responsibly.) Basically, we'll keep going until the party is done!

  • Yes. However, we strongly encourage you to bring cash to help things move as quickly as possible.

  • The majority of venues will be serving appetizers and food that you can eat on the go, but you should definitely eat before you crawl.

SAFETY

  • Black Lives Matter. And that's why we told the police we were showing up! Can't surprise folks with thousands of Black people singing and dancing in the streets. All local police precincts have been notified and have been supportive and welcoming of the event. Kwanzaa Crawl is about bringing members of the community together for a good cause. The NYPD is a part of our community, too, and we're all working together, alongside our local elected officials, to ensure that Kwanzaa Crawl runs smoothly and safely from start to finish.

  • If one of the aforementioned instances occurs, you can always head back to the last bar you were at and a Kwanzaa Crawl team member will help you find your way. But if both happens, you may just need to take yo’ drunk ass home!

ABOUT KWANZAA CRAWL

  • There are so many great ways allies can support the movement! Support Black businesses by patronizing any of the 35+ participating venues during their normal business hours. You can also make a donation to Barbershop Books, and Seeds of Fortune, the amazing charities that we are sharing a portion of our proceeds with. A little support can go a long way!

  • Maybe. But, so what? All holidays are made up. Even though Kwanzaa has only been in existence for 50 years, the literal translation, “first fruits of harvest,” is a tradition that is present in many religions. The principles and foundation of Kwanzaa were adapted from African principles, traditions and culture, and there's nothing new about coming together to celebrate the people you love in your community.

  • This crawl embodies all 7 principles of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa Crawl is about bringing people in the community together, or Umoja, which means (Unity).

A team of Black creatives used the resources available to them in order to make an event of this scale happen. That’s both Kujichagulia (self determination) and Ujima (collective work and responsibility).

Kwanzaa Crawl creates an opportunity for Black people to harness their buying power, and that’s Ujamaa (cooperative economics).

The planning, marketing, writing, and designing demonstrated Kuumba (creativity).

Creating an event which focuses on investing in your community to improve your quality of life is Nia (purpose).

Getting the owners of over 30 bars to close to the public, with the hope that the community will show up is Imani (faith).

  • Given the spending of Black consumers and Kwanzaa’s emphasis on supporting black culture, this crawl is an opportunity to educate people and make Kwanzaa cool again.
